Before the big day

Elly would take anything but this at the moment.  She would have splinters jammed under her finger nails, swung from her feet by painful hooks, anything but the mindless, numbing torture that was boredom.  Glancing up at the priest as he massaged her bulging stomach to assess her babies condition and position, she tried to not look as tired as she felt.

"Lady Peaceroot, as I recommended to you last week, you need to stay on bed rest until the babies are born.  Triplets in elves are already rare enough without you tempting fate.  Do you not care about the well being of your unborn children?" his stern green eyes, while kind and a bit wrinkled at the eyes  bore into her in an accusing manner.

"You know very well I do...I just have things that can not wait for.." Elly tried not to look like a scolded child as the priest interrupted her.

"Tut tut, Ellithiria!  I want no excuses or I shall personally hire a person to make sure you do so while your husband is away.  I haven't the time to babysit you or continually rush out here for checkups because you feel like you could work a 12 hour day.  You do know how rare sleep will be once they arrive?  Why not take advantage of the rest while you can?" With a small twitch of his hand the blankets at her feet lifted into the air and he went down between her legs, which despite this being the fourth doctor to look at her hoo hoo she still blushed.

"Alright!  Alright.... I give, Okay.  Damn Doc cold hands!" she shivered and grimaced as the examination began and ended just as quickly.  After all the priest had just been here yesterday, what could have changed?

"Well, once again, everything is coming along fine.  The boys should be here in a month or so." he walked with a slight stoop over to the basin and pumped enough water to wash his hands while Elly sat in stunned silence.  When the lack of witty retort from Elly didn't come the doctor raised a brow and glanced over at her.

"Lady Peaceroot?" concern riddled in his voice. Elly was sitting back with a stunned look on her face, tears slowly and silently streaming down her cheeks. "My dear whats wrong?"  he walked over and sat down on the edge of the bed.

"B..Boys?  I'm having all boys?" her words were so thick with emotion she could hardly utter the sentence.

"That's right.  Three healthy baby boys." he gently touched her stomach and closed his eyes.  After a split second his hand blazed with warm glowing light that seamed to filter out from him and enter her womb, leaving Elly with a bit more strength. "And now they are three blessed baby boys."

After the spell faded from his hand she took it and kissed it gratefully. He could see something had changed in her.  No longer did she look upset or troubled that she was bedridden.

"Thank you...Thank you." she whispered, not bothering to wipe the tears away.  As the priest slowly walked out of her room and could be heard shutting and magically locking the front door of the cabin behind him, Elly looked down at her little undelivered bundle and cradled it carefully.

"Hurry up my little guys.  Daddy and I can't wait to meet you." And as a little confirmation of their anticipation to meet their parents, Elly felt a soft little kick right under her hand that brought a soft bubbling laughter up through the emotion.  Or maybe they were telling her to be patient so they could continue to cook.
